No more pistols at Fort Langley Reenactments

Greetings Everyone,

I had a look at the new Parks Canada guidelines for reenactning as sent by Fort Langley and one of the no-nos is a handgun. Last year I still carried my antique Bentley percussion revolver to Ft. Langley it is kind of sad that I will not be able to do it this year. Does anyone know if that is going to be enforced at every federal park or is the some local aberration?
 
As far as i know, handgun were not allowed for reenacting on Park Canada's site for the last 10 years... In Quebec, anyway. I am reenacting seven years war since 1998 and we never had the right to carry a flintlock pistol to a park. In fact, since they are restricted firearms, we can only bring them to the range...
 
I wonder what was going through the minds of the intellectual giants who made up that rule. "Let's see reenactors going berserk is starting to become a real problem ... well maybe not yet, but a fellow can't be too careful ....... a single shot flintlock pistol with a 10 inch barrel or a single shot rifle with a 32 " barrel ..... let me see ..... assuming a reenactor wants to go berserk, which one causes more damage ... hmmmmmm. Well the pistol must be more dangerous, because it is a handgun (shudders, and makes the sign of the cross)."

Or maybe the National Parks staff got tired of cleaning up the mess after everyone loaded their drawers at the sight of a flintlock pistol?
