So I was at our local gun store( the only one in the territory) and they have a sale on reloading stuff 20% off everything other than powder and primers, so I asked if it was because they are getting out of it and they said yes 😮. So we will be able to buy primers and powder, but for how long I don’t know. And they basically have no powders lol. Kind of sad!

Try cost of new ammo…reloading has never been to save money ..but to shoot more with the same money.
On top of it..with factory ammo - it is a guess every time to get the most accurate load. Tailored reload cannot be beaten.
While it suck a local store stop keeping reloading - but all components can be purchased online. No reason to stop.

The big users of ammo and reloading supplies were the "semi-auto" shooters.

With the lack of hundreds of thousands of rounds being dumped down range, smaller gun stores will evaporate. They made more money on ammo than they did on guns.

At some point we will only have big box stores to go to.

no surprise to hear this after reading how so many shooters mail order everything, even the smallest parts and maintenence items
the days of a lgs are numbered
You’re forced to mail order because retailers refuse to keep stock. Doesn’t matter what it is that you want or need

Just like any other type of brick and mortar store they have competition from online specialty stores.
I can't see reloading dying, even with the current component prices. Some (not even exotic calibers) factory ammo is 80-100 per box of 20 rounds!!

Primers have come down in price a bit and if you keep your eyes open on the EE or GP you can score bullets at half price compared to store prices.

Reloading might be the only way for us to feed our beasts in the future, especially if we keep electing communists
Every time I go to a gun store I come out with some sort of reloading component, wether it’s a box of bullets, a couple sleeves of primers or a pound of powder
If the criminals in charge take your pal away because you were a bad boy and didn’t surrender your guns you can keep feeding them by reloading as long as you have supplies
Plus as was stated before by others even with the price increases it’s still cheaper to reload then buy factory ammo in most cases

The reason it sucks so much for us up here is everything is so much more trouble to get it up here, some businesses don’t even ship up here.
And yes the service in the gun store sucks, we have one guy in our store that is genuinely interested and wants to learn, the others just pretend.
Of course I ordered stuff online but mostly because they didn’t have what I wanted locally.
We are 45k people in the Yukon and we have one gun shop, one part time “gunsmith” and 2-3 other paces that sells ammo in the entire territory! That is crazy!

Every time I read something like this I'm thankful that after the first shortage and price increase about 20 years ago I stocked up, I will never be held hostage to gouging or shortages again, I'm still loading with powder that I paid $27 / pound and primers that were $2 / 100 and shooting 22 LRHP at $14 / 500 pack :D if I do need something well Prophet River is just 3 minutes from my house.

Sorry to hear your go to store is reducing inventory/selection. They are only doing what they have to, given they don't do mail order I'm guessing. I don't think less people are reloading though. People just shop where they can get what they need for the lowest cost. My local is always my first stop. If they have what I want, great. If they don't, I ask if they can get it and for how much. If it's a few dollars more, I pay it without hesitation. I know I'm helping a friend. I will always put profit in a friends wallet if I can. I think that's not the case so much anymore though. On line shopping has changed things for all retailers. If it's something that you don't need to inspect or handle first, people just take the cheap option. I hope you find a way to continue to support your local. Cheers

Hey Billy - u got Del Selin and Canuck tire there in Vermin ! (y)
I thought that we had it good with the Powder Keg and The Horse Barn in Kamloops…… I was in Calgary recently and went to Calgary Shooting Centre and the South Calgary Cambodian Tire… I was blown away by the selection that was offered in both locations. Retail prices were generally better and no 7% PST. Win win.
