^ Agreed. More IS better, if only for the insurance factor.
A 223 might be CAPABLE of killing deer with a perfect shot, but what happens of there's a gust of wind, or the deer bolts at the last second, or your scope's zero has slipped a bit when you banged it against a tree earlier? A larger calibre can easily penetrate bone, shoulder/whatever, or make a texas heart shot.
