When I was building a M1 that had come from the Phillipines,
No wood except rear handguard
No rear sight
Bore like 10 miles of gravel road, but it was only $40. Thankfuly we had a rifle team on base and the armourer fitted a new barrel and supplied the rest of the missing bits. Made in Feb 1942.
I had the bolt magnafluxed and we found the bolt lug had a hairline crack.
As for the rest of the bits, I have never had a problem.
The first op rods were known to sometimes break because the dogleg was cut at a 90 degree angle. That was cured by radiusing that section.
Spares?
Op rod spring
Extractorand associated bits
I have NEVER heard of the follower arm breaking. The clip latch sometimes goes bad but it's a rare occurence. Hardly worth buying a spare.
They are pretty much fool proof, but they are not DAMM FOOL proof.
