i picked up one of these norinco 780's from ammo source for $90 new. it said remington 870 parts dont fit it but so far i have installed a new forend and side saddle and they fit perfict. i havent shot the gun but from dry fireing the pump is really stiff and needs to be worked in. the only problem with the gun i see is that the follower from the magazine some times gets in the way of the spoon or shell lifter?. i had this same problem with an old 870 and plastic follower. i belive changeing the follower to a tactical type will prob solve the problem since they dont stick out as far.. in the worst case i would file down the end of the spoon so it doesent make contact anymore.

I also don't know what a B&G thread is either.

however I do have a 780...and it cycles like it's full of sand....that's why it's under the seat of my truck - a disposable truck gun. Don't waste money modding this gun. It's a cheapy shotgun that you can treat like crap and not care.

i agree not to spend to much on extras for the gun. i am just lucky that i used to have an 870 with about every part you could get for it and i just used left overs on this gun. i wonder if the stiff action is due to the chinese oil they use. it seems to be very thick. i think my task this summer would be to take it all apart clean every thing and re-oil it with some hopps.

Mine cycles like glass - not broken glass either... i did find that if you weren't careful with re-assembly you could jam the alignment of the bolt assembly with the shell latches and pump arms... with a little tlc and proper attention to assembly it works fine. With respect to the follower, the factory one is cheaper than the cap from a medicine bottle. I replaced mine with a hi-viz one from SFRC.

I took mine straight from the box out to shoot it and I put 7 through it as fast as I could without even cleaning all that grease out of it and ran like a champ!

HOLD THE PHONE: an 870 fore end will fit on my 780 HS? I was under the impression that the rentention system for the fore end was different between the two.

Not that it matters. The 780 weighs a ton, and with my rail and red dot on there, it ain't feelin any lighter. The only mods/extras I want to add are: flashlight, and a shell carrier on the stock. The mods? A new follower, and a 870 stock or aftermarket trigger, if I could get my hands on one.

My 780 needs work. A lot of it. :(

First off, the ejection port side (or left) arm that control the shells coming out of the magazine was jammed in the open position. I had to dremel a fair bit of material off to get it to move freely without jamming.

Secondly, the right "shell control" arm bends in when the pump is in the forward position and prevents the lifter from moving so I can't actually load the gun unless the pump is moved to the half way position.

It's either been assembled wrong or else there are some serious manufacturing defects.

For $90, I'm not too upset about this as it gives me something to work on when I'm bored. If I can get it working, great. If not, I'll just sell it on the EE for twice what i bought it for. :p (yes,I'm kidding)

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that the receiver is as sharp as a razor. I have dozens of tiny cuts all over my hands and fingers simply from handling it. I didn't even realize I was cutting myself until I washed my hands and they started to sting from the hot water and soap.

Hmm. mine isn't sharp at all. Different batch most likely, seeing as I got mine close to a year ago.
