No1 MKIII nosecap fit

Hi, I can't remember. Is the nosecap on a No1MKIII supposed to be loose all the way around, or loose enough so that the barrel has room to move?

Fairly "snug" all the way around ie...centered. My own, the barrel is slightly higher than center due to up pressure on the barrel.

IIRC there should be contact at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock?

A lot of people filed the hole larger so that it doesn't touch at all, although it would be an illegal mod for S.R.(a) matches.

Ok thanks guys.

Mine had been tight in the hole. A little sanding with some 220grit and a 1/2 inch dowel, and now it has freedom to move. And I think that I still have the contact at 10 and 2. I'll have to recheck that.

It had been a restored rifle (so the cap doesn't match anyhow), so if I fudged the correct fit I can get another from somewhere. I think tradex has them.
