Good day folks

Can anyone provide information on refurbing a No32 MkIII scope for No4 MkI T? The windage and elevation drums are mostly seized. Other than that the scope is in great all original condition and happily matched to rifle.

I’ve poked around online but without success.

Thanks!
Greg

Full stop, do not use heat, oil or chemicals.

The turret "drum" has to be disassembled.
What is probably going on is that the original 1940's grease has reacted with the o-rings/seal and turned to mastic.

Best bet is to contact "wheaty".

Fyi, "the book" doesn't have directions...

The only chemicals to use are isopropyl alcohol and deminerlised vaseline those were the only chemicals used to fix bino No2 in the REME which were the same vintage as the No32 sight and they were still issued until the late 1990's. If you must disassemble be very, very careful the threads on sights are very fine and they used on cast or brass and damage very easily. In fact if you have not had any experience in sight repair consider sending it out. Most of the disassembly and tests can be done without equipment but it takes experience and training to do the reassembly and testing.

I have easily freed up a half dozen of those scopes, they still work fine after 10 years, but for a rebuild Wheaty is your man

While you are getting the knobs freed, ask politely about the stickum holding the lens elements together. The glue is really old natural tree resin, and if it is going to fail, the lens will get suddenly cloudy!

The scope itself appears to be in great condition so I’m not looking at doing an overhaul but just freeing up the turrets.

If the grease in those drums has seized up, IMHO that scope should be completely overhauled or at the very least thoroughly cleaned.

Mr Wheatfield will do a great job and make repairs as needed. If you're worried about cost???????????????
