Those five rounds in the lower right quadrant with two bullet holes touching were my first group of the day at 100m. First group since I tried bedding the rifle as well - huuuge improvement!

Unfortunately every five rounds after that were about twice or worse the group size. I suspect that I may need to go back over things and tighten it up again. Hopefully the draws are still intact.

I was shooting the PPU 174gr fmj and then moved on to some handloads with no real noticeable change in performance.

Regardless it was a great day for some shooting.. nice to finally have some sunshine!

 
Well, I noticed the draws were cracked loose inside the reciever area, so I CA glued them into place with some judicious clamping to keep them tight. I added some thin shims of wax paper, also glued into place on the front of the draws, which made the fit of the stock MUCH better. Super tight against the wrist, more tension on the tip of the muzzle.

Then I wrapped a couple layers of thin masking tape around the butt stock peg which slides into the wrist. It should be very tight as well, and mine was not.

I made sure the trigger guard was flat, the recess was clean and the bushing was sized appropriately.

Finally, I checked by sliding cdn tire money (HA!) around the barrel in between the barrel and the stock. I was looking to see that the barrel was free floating in the stock with the exception of the muzzle and the chamber areas, with the stock firmly attached.

Those are the important things, imho. Most of the enfields I've seen are loosely stocked. Wood can dry out and shrink over time.

Very nice shooting!

I find that the 174gr PPU ammo shoots very well in all of my .303's as well.

Hope you find your bedding problem as I know how frustrating it can be to shoot a tight group at the beginning and then have them open up as the day progresses.

I had a similar problem with my longbranch and it turned out to be that it wanted one more layer of paper around the butt stock where it goes into the socket, she shoots real good now!
