No4 mk1 mag fit the mk2

Only the No1MkIII SMLE magazines are different.

I've seen them in No 4 rifles but I believe they were tweaked to fit and work.

As for the No4MkI, No5MkI, No4Mk2, they all used the same magazine.

Interestingly a no.1 can accept a no.4 mag but you can't fit a no.1 mag in the no.4. I got my dads no.1 and it came with a couple extra mags, one of which was a no.4. It fit and fed with no problems in my no.1.

If I am not mistaken, one has rounded corners, whereas the other is more squared off, so the more squared off ones wont fit in a receiver with rounded edges to the magwell. That, or Im out to lunch. Both are possible right now, I've been writing a paper for school for the last 12 hours...

I had a Long Branch that came with a No 1 mag...worked fine.

As for how to tell them apart...they look different but the big tell is the notches to lock it in. The No1 mag has several while the No 4 mag has one.

Interesting, I'll have to try a no.1 mag in my no.4 and see how it goes again. Iirc it didn't work for me last time I tried it but that doesn't mean it can't work lol!
