Guys,

Can you help me out with identifying what this rear sight is? It has no visible markings that I can see, and is a direct replacement for a Lee Enfield No4Mk1 rear sight assembly, using the existing hinge pin, plunger spring, etc.

I had a look through some of the target sight threads on the other Milsurp board, but couldn't find anything that looked quite like it. I'm more familiar with like a Parker Hale PH5C, for example

I am sort of amazed there is no "PH4" on it somewhere - must be treading very closely to that patent, I would think? Windage and elevation adjustable, it seems. Would wonder how it checks out for precision of the "clicks" and backlash on the thread adjustments - was the main challenges of the originals, I think?

I sold a Parker Hale 4 rear sight, with a Parker Hale 60 eyepiece (six aperture sizes to chose from) for $350 on EE in 2020. So worth your while to check out what you have got. Pretty sure that I have seen PH59 or PH60 eye pieces for around $C 60??

I had one of those sights on a No4 match rifle back in the day. Say around 1980.

They were once available through the DCRA and came out of the UK.

They were about one third the cost of Parker Hale "PH4" and just as good for most purposes.

If memory serves, they were made by different manufacturers at a loss, specifically as a way of helping out the sport in UK/AUS/NZ/Canada.

They sold for around $20 by the time they arrived.

I've seen them mounted on No4/No5/No7/No8 rifles Even on a few hunting rifles.

It's been a long time since I had one. I don't remember if they were marked or not.

I do remember I ordered them through the DCRA at the time and they came in plain brown cardboard boxes appx 1 3/4 in square by 1 in deep and had a white DCRA label.

Thanks for the info so far - nothing that definitively identifies it, but I'm trying to research some of these threads, like it being a SARCO sight or a DCRA-produced target sight. This thing is certainly robust - solid clicks, no wobble.

What's a PH5C worth these days? Ebay is a hard site to gauge prices off of.

Does this sight work with the standard No. 4 sight pivot cross pin? Straight drop-in with the cross pin, plunger and spring?

Value of a 5C these days? Asking prices seem to be going up. Don't know exactly what they are selling for.

Yes, they fit very well and are quite snug.

I used to replace the aperture ring with an adjustable aperture, on the rifles I kept for myself. I think I have one of those adjustable apertures in one of the bins.

I have a similar sight on one of my DCRA rifles.

I am of the understanding that it was manufactured by CAL - although it's odd that there are no markings.

I've always wondered who manufactured the MkI rear sight for Long Branch - I wonder if they survived the war, maybe they tried to branch out post war.
