I've posted this in the parts section however it may be better here.

A few months ago a fellow board member advised of a No4 Trial's rifle for sale in a Wndsor, Ontario gunshop...it was very reasonably priced and was sold before you could say "Bob's your Uncle".

The rig came with a MK111 scope which was incorrect and the new owner had posted here looking for a MK1 scope. He was advised by board members that it would be unlikely to find one due to their rarety. I can not find the post and have tried searching this form.

A Mk3 scope would not be incorrect. Keep in mind that these things were often in the hands of an armourer. If the Mk1 Scope was damaged or beyond repair, the newer scope would replace it.
 
JS, you ar correct, but there is also another scenario. Dureing and after the war the lee enfield sniper rifles were sold to many other nations, some only bought a few, then proceeded to build their own. There were lots of cheap, new rifles for sale after the war but not many scopes, so they started to build their own. Now as the Brits found a few problems with the Mk 1 scopes, they replaced them as soon as the Mk 111 scopes became available. Many of the Mk 1 scopes were sold to India as well as a few other countries. When I bought my No4 Mk1/3 T, it turned out to be Indian when it arrived, proper transit case, scope can and a beat up sling, roughened non glare finish on the wood but otherwise very good condition and the scope clear and bright with smooth adjustment turrets (thank goodness) After searching many websites, an american collector put me on to the scope info I just relayed and that's about all i can tell you about where the Mk 1 REL scopes went. bearhunter
 
I was the person that found the rifle, I think it was superbee that ended up getting it.

Damn not having a spare couple of grand kicking around to play with.

Heck, I'm still paying down the visa from this summer...
