Picked up an Mk4No1* with the micrometer adjustable long range sight. There is a consistent ~3.5 MOA horizontal offset between the POI of the micrometer peep and the POI of the 300y battle sight (elevation matches at the 300y setting). Is this common? If not, I will try replacing it with another. If so, what is the best way to correct it?

Your saying the Elevation of the battle sight is the same as the 300m sight?

Yes, when I set the micrometer sight to 300, it agrees in elevation, but the battle sight hits 3.5 MOA to the right of the POI of the micrometer sight.

Thanks! That is the response I was hoping for! Was not looking forward to diddling with the stupid thing to fix it...

So, where is the best place to get a known good replacement?

Is it possible the front sight may need adjusting left or right? For elevation there are front sights with different heights. I would assume that changing an iron sight would be the same as changing a scope, where adjustments are necessary.

Nope, the front sight has nothing to do with the two rear aperatures hitting in different places. I could move the front sight or change it and the offset between the two would still exist.

Most would opt to zero and shoot with the finer micrometer slide aperture and save the battle sight for close range snap shooting at charging bears, krauts, commies, etc.:p

Seriously, you might need to shoot with a number of sights until you found one where the 2 apertures were harmonized for windage.

I have a really low tolerance for mediocrity... so, I'll try replacing it and if they don't match I will adjust the new sight so that they do (and preserve the original). A 3.5" offset at 100 yards means that there is about a 0.028" offset between the two apertures.

I plan to. And when I get a piece of equipment, I want and expect it to work perfectly. When it doesn't, I fix it or get rid of it. Good enough may be good enough for most, but it is not for me. It works 100% or it goes. 3.5 MOA is not acceptable, 10.5 inches is a miss as far as I'm concerned. A moose might not notice, but a V-bull will.

If simply switching the sight corrects the problem, I would rather do that than spend time (something I don't have a lot of) fixing it. But, if fixing it is the only way to correct this, so be it, it will get fixed and they will match up. It isn't difficult to fix, but still chews up time. I also want to be able to restore the rifle to it's original state, so I need a second sight regardless.

Long time no see amigo. :) I think the one on the right is a Mk4. I can send it to you if you want to try it.
