So, I've got the whole rear sight unit taken out, but now how do I get the thing apart to give it a good cleaning?

I would just soak it in a container of brake cleaner. Shake it around to get all the caked-on sludge off. For stubborn grease, take an old toothbrush to it and soak again if necessary. I wouldn't disassemble the sight unless absolutely necessary. When clean, oil it and re-install

What the smallest container one can buy? I don't have a car and only need to clean one rifle after all.

Use varsol. Does the same thing as brake cleaner. Mind you, just because you have no wheels, doesn't mean you don't need or want a degreaser.

Right, but I don't need lots since I don't clean a whole lot of rifles.

Anyone ever use Simple Green for degreasing? Doesn't stink as bad as varsol.

Ahhh, simple green, something I may be able to use aruond the house more so than Varsol or brake cleaner.

You can ALWAYS use a spray can of brake cleaner.

And besides, you might THINK you're only going to clean one rifle. The things are addicting, as I discovered more than 40 years ago...... and now they've GOT YA!

As long as I'm getting paid what I make now, cleaning more than one rifle won't be a problem.
