I finally got to the range to see how the tweaking I did on my horribly inaccurate #5 worked out. I made sure the barrel is free of the fore end and isn't making contact anywhere, removed slop in the stock etc.
It groups fine now, the only problem is I need a new front sight. I have to dial the sight up to one click past 400yds to get POA @ 100yds. The battle sight just kicks up mud at that range. The front sight is stamped 06, any ideas where to start to get a decent 6 o'clock hold?
 
If tabling on a particular load or commercial round, you can regulate your sights by grinding the front post just enough with the battle sight on or the elevator at 150 yrds. Try to grind it square and level.

Now, before you do anything else, did you make sure the king screw's spacer was in place? If that spacer isn't fitted and the trigger guard front tang drawn snug against it, no durable zeroing can be expected.

As far as light bullets, the rounds are right on the money in my #4. I'd rather get a new front sight than grind, just wondering if there's a rule of thumb or formula out there for adjusting impact point/poa. You know, drop a size for ever moa or something... It's prolly doable mathematically, but not by me!:redface:
