I take it that the sling (leather) is not to the rifle?

That sling is one heck of a lot OLDER than the rifle! Belongs on a WW1 SMLE
In any case, its on BACKWARDS. FIND A WEB SLING and SAVE the leather one. they are hard to find.

Good to know. I have an SMLE that it can live on.

Any thoughts on where I can get an No5 sling?

The green sling is the p44, but the P37 will do nicely as both were used.

Oh by the way, the leather sling would be tied off at the lower swivel. The leather sling would have a tendency to loosen so there are pics of rifles in the trenches where that problem was solved by sticking a .303 round in the sliding loop to tighten it.

Where would I find the markings?

if there are any markings, they would be at the end with the holes.
