I have asked this question on American forums and noboby seems to know, so thought I would try here.
Have a chinese moisen nagant carbine in 7.62x39. NOT 7.62x54.
It is a SINGLE SHOT rifle. the reciver bottom is solid and there was NEVER a magazine fitted. The rear sight is a lump with a V notch.

Anyone have an idea of what it is?

It would be excellent as a weight to keep your crab traps on the bottom.
 
Sounds like 303carbine has some crabs he needs to get rid of........

Seriously though, it has been said that the Chinese never destroyed a weapon. This one probably came into being when they were converting over the SKS and wanted to find a use for the various Mosin-Nagants that were then in use

No chance of a pic as I am Kumpewter illiterate on posting those things, and while I bought a digital camera a couple of years ago, I NEVER learned how tio use it.:runaway:

However another point. the stock is made as a single shot, there is NO opening for a magazine.

I don't know how to email pics, and in any case that would involve the use of a digital camera which I have not figured out how to use.

As for how I came to own it, An importer that I have known for many years got in a thousand or so carbines, There were only TWO single shot ones. I got one and he kept the other.

If you managed to navigate your way around the internet find this site, then to get a membership & then go on to post on it, believe me mastering a digital camera or learning how to upload pics to a free hosting website or even e-mailing them isn't too much harder after that..... ;)
 
No the pic ain't pretty, but it certainly IS the "trainer" I have. I didn't know there was a third one.

Now the funny thing is none of them had bolts. The rifle uses the standard bolt but the face is recessed for the rimless round. A bit of lathe work was all that was needed with a slight mod of the extractor. It works fine, but the bolt is a ##### to hammer open with steel case ammo, so I use brass cases and there is no problem.

As for masterning kumpweters, I own a 1922 Victor Talking machine and the records for it.;)

78's were the ONLY records in 1922. Of course I have to crank it! (four spring motor);)
It sold for $375 in 1922. There was a variation with an electric motor that sold for $40 extra.

Consider it was the large Flat screen TV set of it's day
