Non-brand related failure of rifle component that was caused by human error

Got this in for a rebbl, been meaning to post for the purpose of warning people NOT to leave stuff in the bore then fire their rifle. Check your bore for obstructions!!

Obvious by the pics you can see where an obstruction was but I am not sure of the full story.

really need more info on that one.

Willing to bet the action is still okay, but should still be checked to make sure it didn't stretch with the pressure spike.
 
Parker hale safari 7mm mag, snow or mud in the barrel.

Barrel split like that, the bolt wouldn't open much more then half way as the lugs were digging into the raceways. I was beside it when it happened and thankfully not behind it although the trigger man was not hurt. Without knowing the history of the rifle or the ammo that was fired in that rifle prior to its hard to say if it had of been abused prior to that shot or not. The bullet made it out of the barrel, that we know because I damn near had to drag two carcasses back out to the truck.

If it was Rem it would have self healed and been good as new but since it was a savage......well the pictures speak for themselves. :D

Hope the trigger puller was OK on this one. Looks like it would have been an exciting day for him/her.
 
The closeup of the banana peel photo gives the impression the bore was not concentric to the barrel contour? Seems to be a lot of metal on one peel.
Is this the case or just an optical illusion?
 
When my father worked for C.I.L. in cartridge investigations, the would occasionally get a rifle looking exactly like that .
However in most of the instances he investigated, it came down to a gu that had a lot of condensation build up and turned to ice.
The reason this came up was because I ran inot one myself that a buddy's wife did after running out of the cabin in the winter to shoot a fox.
The gun hand been hanging near the ceiling and was very warm, and it was -35 outside.
Only on this one ( Pattern14 in 30'06) the barrel split just in front of the breach all the way up to the muzzle in two pieces!!:eek:
We have seen several laser bore guide episodes lately, and when I was young I always wondered why the false muzzles on the old time BP match rifles had a big blocker in front of the sight !!:cool:

im willing to bet it was a Bore sighter. looks about the right depth for the main bulge to be where the pin goes in and tightens.
