Non Canadian applying for PAL

No where Did I say "third world immigrants shouldn't posses firearms

WoW, one and a half years to be granted permanent residency status, I'm stunned it took so long. Do you feel you are entitled to live in Canada ?

Yes, and I'm still surprised Non-Canadians can posses a PAL or Rpal even though they are not Canadian Citizens. Permanent residents cannot vote but can posses firearms ?

All I'm saying is how can the RCMP do a detailed background check from someone from a third world country as opposed to someone from United States ? I would think Record keeping from Developing nations are almost non-existent.

No where Did I say "third world immigrants" shouldn't posses firearms. I Believe in Equal rights for all CANADIANS.

I am pretty sure that I am not very eager to hear all your opinions.

Jag heter Yogi Lander. Jag bor i Stockholm.

I once had a crush on a few Norwegian girls. :) Oh yeah and Stockholm is in Sweden so those girls too.

Friend of mine is current British Military and just had to go through the same process as anyone else to get his PAL/RPAL, no background check that he mentioned or else it wasn't a big deal. He has only been here 1.5 years and in past 5 has been in UK, Afganistan and Iraq.

As someone else mentioned though, with your wifes condition be certain that you want and want her to be in that situation. I have been around all aspects of depression and lost one of my best friends to his brothers rifle as I was 5 feet away. Took me 10 years to touch a gun after that. My point is people in that state of mind can think logically or i-logically. It's the latter you have to be concerned with as it causes people to be cunning/manipulative and you can't be around 24/7. So I'm certainly not saying dont apply or even saying she should not apply just be carefull. Cheers and happy shooting.

And yes I know the gun wasn't what killed him.

I have contacted the rcmp firearms control office, i am eligable to apply for a PAL as a non resident.
Yes i have to get a background check, this i can get from the 'local' police force as well as the military police, as i've done 21 years in green they are more than happy to carry out the check.
I also have to do the safety course. Having to do a 'weapon handling test' and a pass/fail range package at least once a year, every year isn't sufficient. But rules are rules and there for a reason.
Any weapons i do get after i get a PAL will be secured so that no-one apart from myself will have access, so the depression situation doesn't worry me.

I meant where are you from in England. I'm kinda nosy like that. :D ya never know we might know each other its a little island.

Your right it is a small island, from a town called Wolverhampton its in the midlands not to far from Birmingham...
I'll probably have a 'whinge' about the price when i finaly get chance to buy some. Sticks and stones are pretty cheap at the moment thou lol

You need to be an American Citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident in order to purchase and own firearms in the U.S

I don't understand how in Canada that Non-Canadians can get a firearms license and buy firearms .

Canada bans certain firearms from Canadians based on they way they look yet lets non-canadians own firearms ?

You're looking at it all wrong.

The U.S. doesn't require continuous licensing by the federal government; Canada does.

It matters not whether one is a citizen by birth, a naturalized citizen, a landed immigrant or a visitor; what matters (in Canada) is that they are all licensed, and that their eligibility is continuously re-evaluated (for suitability) by the RCMP-CFP and the CFOs.

Wrong. With proof of 90 days residence, an INS admission #, and a hunting license you can legally buy a firearm from an FFL dealer and possess it. Tourists are doing this regularly. No permanent residency needed. Show up at a gun show with a wad of cash in most states, and you can get a gun no questions asked.

For non-residents, Canada requires a foreign background check be submitted, the US does not (unless it is a state requirement).

Residency status is fairly irrelevant as to whether one is qualified to possess a firearm, so why are a continuing to make an issue out of it?
