Non-chromed chamber issue Russian SKS

So, was cleaning the bore on my 55/56 refurb SKS today. Noticed that the chamber was dirty so I started cleaning it. All the patches came out rusty. Apparently the chamber is not chromed (the barrel is chrome lined though). My chamber is pitted and rusted, after 45 patches it was still orange (cleaned with brake cleaner, Shooters Choice and G96 bore cleaner). I tried some JP Bore Paste and gave up after an hour. Gotta live with the pitting and rust I guess.

Why wouldn't the Russians chrome the chamber? My Chinese SKS has a chrome lined chamber. Perhaps the Russians used chrome lined barrel blanks and then cut the chamber? One would think that would be hell on the chamber reamers...

Apparently the pitting is pretty bad - and he paid for a 'select grade' rifle, so he's pretty pissed.....

Shouldnt get stuck with that if you just bought it...thats not fair. I assume if you bought it from a dealer you should contact them and make arrangements for a replacement or a refund of some sorts...if you have already.

None of the various makes of SKS have a chrome chamber and all are prone to corrosion for all the usual reasons.

How bad is the pitting?

85% of the chamber is pitted, rusted and rough. Most likely can be fired with steel cased ammo, brass cased ammo would most likely be a no-go. Guess when I go to shoot it I will make sure my broken case extractor is in the shooting bag.

DAR 701... If it's any consolation... I just received my shooter's grade rifle from Frontier and it's nice. All matching numbers... The shooter's grade is a nice deal...
