Note the correct position of the Waffen SS sleeve eagle as opposed to the Army breast eagle on my previous uniform

didnt even notice the oak leaves.
Yea, German ww2 insignia is so drenched with fakes it makes it very hard and often painfully difficult to find something rare and original.

I hear ya, my rarest German cuff band is a real Volksturm band from 1945 in VG+ condition. The stuff that's rarer than that is too easily and oftenly faked for me to risk it!

One is a Knight's Cross with oak leaves.
One is an Iron Cross second class ribbon.
One is an Iron Cross first class badge.

All could be worn at the same time, however the button hole ribbons and the ribbon bar above the pocket were either/ or, not both.

That's true that it was allowed, but typically, except on the dress uniform, an EK recipient wore the highest class of the award, not all the sub-classes at the same time. At least, the photographic evidence bears this out.

I remember reading somewhere that the Iron Cross was such a popular souvenier, that in June of 1945, some enterprising Germans started cranking out new badges to sell to service men. Some of the very first reproductions were made on the original equipment in the original factories by the original makers.

I have heard the same story about many of the more 'desirable' medals

Just another example of how potentialy complex collecting that stuff can be....Ill stick to fakes sold as fakes

Very true... Those are the repros to get though as they're real Iron Crosses, just not awarded.

I collect a lot of the authentic stuff (with a specialty in paperwork) and it's true that unless some Vet sells it to you for $5 it's probably a fake...
