Good evening all.

I wanted to get some feedback on the non-lead ammunition and the cost benefit. Does anyone bother purchasing and if so why?

Thanks!

Are you just plinking ,water fowl, small game big game or personal protection ammo ? No one type of ammo can cover every shooting need . Then you have different calibers and types of fire arms ,Designs ( rifled ,smooth bore ) and actions ( bolt, leavers, pumps, break open and semi automatic ( full auto but we arnt aloud them here ) and Revolvers). So the short answer is yes and uslly its more costly .

I used Federal Trophy Copper 2 years in a row for hunting and it was a big mistake. Managed to kill a doe but she didn't die very quick. Next year put 3 shots on a moose and unfortunately I lost her. Spent hours trying to find her and I'm 100% positive all 3 shots hit the boiler room. They just don't expand but are very accurate.

IIRC the state of California has banned (or is in the process of banning) lead ammo for hunting.
So the Barnes bullets that are 100% copper are what people use. The triple x or whatever it is they are called.
They are supposed to expand but I have no experience with them, and yes they are expensive.

I wonder how many on this site care about that.

Care?? Hard for me to get excited when I look out my window and see the black smoke from the 4 million tons the coal fired power plants burn yearly here that puts tons of lead into the air daily or drop in the local air port to see how much leaded aviation fuel still being used in the prop planes here which are still the main style flying in this small airport
Bullets compared is like pissing in the ocean in the big picture
Cheers
