Non-lead Load for old SxS's

I have 2 friends who shoot Sterlingworth's/A.H. Foxes, both very knowledgeable about shotguns. Both shoot steel (normally smaller shot, like No 6's) through their Sterlingworths every season with no adverse effects. I believe Sterlingworth's were very well made with good quality steel.

Does anyone else want to weigh in on this?

As an aside, I contacted Rio and they are hoping to have their shells approved for sale in Canada next year at this time.

Well basically a person can do what they like with their own gun ,most all of the old North American makers made fairly robust guns ,and there is lots of knowledgable people who make an informed decision to use and run steel in the old guns ,there has been many factual reports of the damage that it can do to the old barrels ,although recent manufacturing practices utilizing heavier shot cups diminish the issue's but you still have to contend with the increased pressure that goes hand in hand with the increased velocity that's required to make it lethal and that can be hell on an old shotgun stock ... I wouldn't make a habit of it with any of my own basically because I despise it for so many reasons ( mainly how its shoved down our throats ) but if it became absolute I would have to pick up a modern steel compatible sxs

I shoot lighter recoiling loads out of my vintage guns at the same time keeping an eye on the pressure charts.
Recoil is as bad on many older guns as pressure is.
The only guns I shoot steel through are my modern O/U's and my Pedersoli hammer double which is steel approved.
