non-prohib FAL?

"...registered mistakenly..." Paperwork errors don't mean anything. FN's are prohibited by name. Anyone in possession of one without the proper permit is SOL. Since civil servants don't make mistakes, I'd bet they'd be told they can't have the prohibited permit and must dispose of 'em to somebody who does or turn 'em in.

I agree with you totally but i don't agree with the thinking behind the law i know of at least two ( I have not talked to either person in years and i don't even know where they live anymore BTW)I would waver though there are more than those two out there. I am just wondering if it would be good for our side if it turned out there where a couple hundred out there mistakenly i'd d

I posted the following in the wrong thread, so I duplicated it here.

Just out of curiosity, if you guys bought parts from the US that were manufactured before '97, one at a time (some internet/mail order, some while on "vacation" in the States), and then assembled said parts in Canada, but never took the rifle out and actually shot it; could you get a FAL for your own piece of mind? Would it qualify as "legal?"

If not that, then what if you could prove that each and every part was originally from Canada? A lot of work (and a lot of paperwork to get a hold of) I know, but at least it might be a way to do it legally for the highly motivated. Technically it would be a Canadian made FAL that was "pre-ban."

Could you then bring it on "vacation" to the States (the right State mind you) and shoot it? Aren't you allowed to come on "Hunting Trips" to the U.S. and bring your own rifle? You can deer hunt with a FAL in Texas so long as you're using a 5 round mag. Then again, it might be easier for you to just move to Texas, buy a DSA-58, and live your life.

If it wasn't registered pre prohib status, you're not getting one.

If you had even just the plain upper receiver all by itself, and it was not registered, then it is an unregistered prohibited and non-grandfathered to boot. Preban is an american term, and does not apply to Canada. The guns had to be registered prior to the various cut off dates, although there is some allowance for guns which were registered in the old system and greenslipped to still be transferred to the new system.

God, I didn't know it was THAT bad up there. What about armed revolution? LOL. Sorry guys. I was just curious, but I'm almost sorry I asked. They really took them, when they took them up there didn't they; ever consider just leaving and coming down here? We could use all the folks that would fight the attempts down here that we can get. I'm sure you wouldn't let it happen a second time, and we could use the help.

Well, at least if you had one pre prohib you got status to keep it, and others of the same class.

Personally I've considered moving south, but it's a lot of work, and for now I'd rather work on fixing things up here.

I didn't know it was THAT bad up there.

It is'nt. We just let you 'all think that so you feel better about your selves. It aint vermount here but it also is'nt california.

We do have to pine over a few bad decisions made by urban regulators but at the same time we are not at the mercy of every sate and municipal governments whim. My yearly FFL cost is zero and a bayonet lug is not gonna make me a terrorist. Many completely legal, registered and common canadian collections would land your average US citizen in a federal court.

For the most part we are also endowed with the right to shoot things with meat attached to them, Find an FAL toting yank with a moose or an elk in his pick up and I'll show you a guy who paid one way or another.

I'd sooner be a socialist canuck with a rusty SMLE and room to roam then a tactical yank in a texas trailer park.

If you are truly curious about the difference between how are respective governments feel about 'armed' citizines give our Canadian Firearms center a call and talk to a tech or manager. Then call your BATF and decide who you'd rather have as your watch dog.

LOL, Doyle, always with the "Redneck, Texas, tailor-trash" comments. Nice try, but Texas has a bigger economy than France, and Kalifornians are moving here by the droves to escape the oppression, and poverty of their state. I was just curious, and sympathetic, to the Canadian shooter, that's all. At any rate, have you ever shot a fully automatic M-60 or PKM? I have, and still do; a relative of mine is Class III and owns them. It's not like that doesn't require a lot of private land (I.e. money) and legal cache (I.e. friends with even more money) to make work. I guess I'll just head out to the back of my "trailer" here after "beating the wife" and blow up some "old junk cars" while swilling "moonshine." I'll think of you always Doyle as I pump belt after belt of steel cored 7.62x54R into that '57 Chevy on blocks. Now, where is my magic marker? I need to black-out some of my teeth for Doyle.

P.S. Yeah, the BATFE is a pain, but we had a few words with them down here in Texas a few years back, and they don't like to come down here much anymore. ;)

That's all very nice but can you make a snowman from around late October to nearly the end of May? Or go icefishing? :p

I've never seen snow, except in pictures. Snow is a trick played upon man by the Devil. I go ice fishing every time I pop the lid on my styrofoam cooler to get another beer. :)

I hope that everyone 'gets' the redneck humour that Corpus is stereotyping in his last post.

At least in the U.S. they don't differentiate between prohibited, restricted and non-restricted firearms. Correct me if I'm wrong Corpus but I don't believe that there are any 'government approved firing range only' firearms down there. If you have the land, you can discharge just about any firearm on your own property?

Yes sir!

Also,

I just got a PM about some picture that I posted here, and how people were "touchy" about it. I don't put up with "touchy" people. They have the same pants to get glad in as they do to get mad in. So, do your worst. I'm not taking anything down. I've done nothing wrong. What picture is more/less than the sum of it's parts? Has humor been outlawed in Canada or something? If so, that's a shame, all our best Comedians in the States are Canadians. I won't be bowing down to social pressure on this one. Anyone who doesn't like my pictures can not look at them, or kiss my "ignorant" a*s. I've got a gun. I can do what I WAON'T! ;)

Corpus, apologies I am still a product of a the war of 1812 and the fenian raids. Gotta keep your head up when you live next to an elephant.LOL.

HAve fun with it.

Anyone remember those FAL Sporters they used to sell with the stock similar to what they put on the Mini-14 target? Sort of a thumbhole variant.
