I had a hammerless antique in one of the shorter .44 calibers (made by cutting 44 magnum brass just about in half) that was short barrelled, 5 shot, hammerless (enclosed hammer) and Belgian. They exist. I wish I could tell you more, but I'll look when I get home. There may be a picture somewhere.
You might try asking in the antique forum.
Other than a converted prohib revolver such as a S&W 640 or 940, with a 4.2" barrel, there isn't much choice in modern guns. The Double Action Only revolver is a nice thing, and having been taught D-A-O, it is surprising what you can do with a little practice. I find Double Action more accurate, shot to shot, than single action. My great big S&W Model 27 holds nice 2 inch groups at 25 meters (with Federal .38 Wadcutters of course).
Worth the look!
