Non raye

I have a Belgian .410 sxs and am trying to cypher the proofs. It is stamped “non raye” on both barrels. I have no idea what that means. Anyone know??

Non Rayé is the French for non-rifled.
- Just thinking outload, but did they ever made paradox 410 double?

This is not a paradox but the “non raye” on both barrels so….that is likely what it mean since, if I am not mistaken, French is an official language in Belgium. Thanks. Proofs don’t show much on this gun.

I got to think about paradox, because if someone went through the trouble of stamping them as "not rifled" , it would imply that rifled barrels would have been common (at least for the maker)

It’s a plain Belgian gun marked “SH Barker and sons” (think cheap hardware store Belgian sxs with laminated barrels) My 28ga hammer sxs is Belgian also “Verrees & Oste” and has inlaid in gold on the rib “ Eprouve A La Poudre Blanche” which I am told is French for “proved with white powder” which seems odd for a gun made in the early 1950’s. Never heard smokeless powder referred to as “white” powder before but being something of an antithesis to black powder I suppose white powder makes sense……….i guess.

Yes they did. Holland and Holland did as well as others. I've seen 1 example with folding leaves out to 300 yards. The load card in the case showed a long heavy slug. I forget which auction house I saw it on
