Non-Resident Hunter in BC

So my GF's Opa is getting up there in age and he also wants me to come hunting with him. Probably should make it this year.

I am an AB resident, he is a BC resident. What do I need to do to make this happen?

More info, her Opa and Oma live in Quesnel so I assume we would hunt in Region 5, maybe Region 7A but probably Region 5.

Also, I have been looking at the regs and it's hard to figure out what I as a non-resident can hunt there for big game, so if you know anything about non-resident approved big game in region 5 it would be much appreciated as well. What would be the best time of year? etc

Note they are proposing changing Mule Bag Limit to 1 per person across all Zones (no Zone jumping - if you get one in Zone 5 no going to 7A for another....)

In other words, your grandfather needs to apply for a permit to accompany in order to legally take you hunting.

4A non-resident of BC who is a resident of
Canada or a Canadian citizen may be accompanied

So once he applies for this, it's pretty much clear sailing?


Licensing, would I buy "A non-resident to hunt all game $75.00" license and then be able to buy individual tags for example, deer, wolf, bear?

I’ve hunted a lot in bc through the hunter host system and bc has a wonderful system for us outsiders. Unfortunately my good friend moved to Alberta so I no longer have a host (hoping to find another that loves mountain hunting) but I’m here to tell you take your gfs opa up on the deal it will be rewarding in many ways
 
Literally everything in BC has over the counter tags except Roosevelt Elk and the Grizzly which is over as of December, even the stuff Americans pay $60K to hunt like Stone Sheep are over the counter tags. You just need fuel and footwork. How it works is in BC they will sell you any tag over the counter, and then you have to locate and hunt a general open season MU without an LEH. Quesnel is really good for deer, black bear, cougar; those will be your focus if he doesn’t travel. If you guys are travelling go chase something you can’t hunt anywhere else not species that are all over Canada. Stone Sheep would be my pick. Quesnel is pretty limited these days and hopefully he’s not a backyard hunter, that’s southern and well beaten bush in hunting terms and won’t really let you see what hunting BC is.

Well he's 84ish but still loves to be active. Last year they got a pretty good sized moose so I will have to ask him exactly where he hunts.

Pretty certain Sheep are off limits for the hunter host program as well. It's been a few years since I've looked into it though. If mountain hunting is your game, there are some great Mountain Goats around, just maybe not so close to Quesnel.
 
You need to apply for a BC Hunter ID# and your Grandfather needs to apply for a "Permit to Accompany" you can do that at a "Front Counter BC" office. You can hunt in 3 Management Units and only one species per permit. I believe he can only apply for 1 permit per year and he can accompany 2 hunters.
 
Well I spoke to her Opa last night and he says there are two areas they like to hunt, one near bouchie lake and another near PG but I'm assuming we will go to a landowner's place near bouchie lake, so looks like we are gonna hunt 5-13.


WT deer, Mule deer, cougar, black bear, wolf appear to be the big game I will be able to hunt.
 
It’ll all be about hunting with your grandfather and making memories, I would view that as the goal and prize, that area isn’t going to be any different than hunting Alberta. Not a bad thing, Canada in general we’re blessed. To get deep into the mountains and into BC is another adventure, this one’s more special.
