Non-restricted 8.5" Dlask guns

I don't read the shotgun forum often and haven't been following this issue, so please bear with me. From what I understand, there are two types of 8.5" shotguns made by Dlask, one restricted and the other non-restricted. Can someone explain the legal difference between the two? Also, what's the business with having to carry it with a sling?
 
only difference is the markings on the receiver and the CFC being stupid. the sling is stated that it must be used to insure that it is meant to be used with both hands. as one handed operation would classify it as a handgun.
 
The ones marked SMD-12 are restricted. The ones without this marking are non-restricted. Makes sense, no?

The "sling" is a loop on the forend you place your hand through to give you a good hold of the shotgun... and to prevent the possibility of smacking the gun into your face while firing. This also makes you use two hands while using this shotgun, because it's not a pistol. Get it? :D
 
Okay, I understand the sling issue now but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the obtuse logic of having two different classifications. So the ones stamped SMD-12 are restricted. What's stamped on the non-restricted version? And what is CFC's reasoning (as ridiculous as I'm sure it is) for making this distinction?

I believe they start out as 870 receivers... then some got engraved. These are the restricted ones, and the only difference from the non is the engraving.
 
The current opinion of the FRT lab is that any firearm with a pistol grip and barrel less than 16" is a handgun, thus restrcited. They have even updated the FRT to indicate this. Dlask's case will decide it for good.

Ah ####. Not to get political in the wrong forum, but can't the frikken Conservative government pass one stinking OIC that makes life a little better for gun owners? Nix the restriction on magazines, declassify the AR-15, drop the OAL restrictions, nuke ATT's, SOMETHING fer crying out loud!

Here's hoping Dlask can pull a rabbit out of the hat!
 
as canammo said, It comes with a full stock on it and you have to keep it on or it becomes restricted. The pistol grip is just there to show what "could" be on it
 
They said there were a couple notes on it when I gave them a reference number about this particular model with this barrel length and they are waiting on a decision to be made before they will approve the transfer. It was from a fellow cgn'er to myself.
 
Your choice. They have no legal right to hold up your transfer and this is a common tactic they play to prevent you from putting the matter before a provincial judge.
 
Ok, so phone them up and ask them if the transfer has been approved yet? When they say it hasn't been yet. Ask for a refusal in writing? Aren't they just going to tell me no because it hasn't been denied?
