Hi all,

I recently got a bunch of 9mm luger reloading components from a guy who sold it cuzz of the new restrictions. I was wondering what are my options in canada for non-restricted 9mm luger bolt action rifles with preferably a 18.5inch or longer barrel?

Thanks.

Why bolt action, why not just use a semi? Is 9mm even capable of long range precision, or is it to remain law abiding regardless of pending tyranny?

Some people just like bolts. If someone made a gun like a ruger 77/357 with iron sights that took 9mm glock mags, I’d have a hard time passing. Kinda like a modern Spanish destroyer carbine.

Yes exactly. The wife and kids would enjoy shooting it aswell due to the light recoil.

I would venture a bet that the axis countries made some 9mm luger bolt guns inbetween the two wars to comply with the restrictions imposed on them after WW1.

Why not? Maybe for fun or cheapest plinking ammo next to .22lr, or maybe having a 9mm that they know will be reliable unlike some of the semi auto toys on the market that command premium prices. I've always wondered why there are no bolt or lever guns in 9mm. Especially with pistol caliber "tactical" levers becoming so popular. It doesnt need to be accurate. I think a 9mm bolt gun would be a blast just shooting steel gongs at 50 or 100m.

Doesn't 9x19 have the same size case head as .223 Rem? Or am I misremembering? Would make a barrel swap on a donor action an interesting possibility.

No, a 9x19 has a larger head diameter than .223. A counterbored bot face would likely have to be opened out. I'm considering altering a Savage 340 bolt head as an experiment. I know that as is, the counterbore is a touch too small for 9mm.

How about one of those straigh pull AR jobs with 9mm AR barrel, mags etc?

I wonder if anyone has tried that? You'd need some sort of magwell adapter I'm thinking? Or are full size mags in 9mm a thing?

With all the interest in 9mm manual action guns lately (there's been at least 3 good size threads in the last few weeks) I wonder if a mini version of the Renegade is in the works specifically for pistol calibers...

Behold! The EndoMag

I’d still rather a compact rifle like a destroyer or Ruger 77 , would be cool to see that instead of a millionth ar180 clone from our manufacturers, im sure they’d sell, there’s a market hole for a manual action 9mm pcc.

If one were converting a rifle to 9x19, the barrel work may be less challenging than making a magazine housing. The thought occurred to me that a great magazine housing would be the grip section from a scrapped 1911 frame. There used to be 80% 1911 frames made. A manufacturer could take unsaleable 80% frames and cut straight up the back and front of the grip to create a universal magazine well. Excellent fit of magazine in housing, and an effective catch mechanism.

If you could adapt the bottom metal to accept AR mags, there are many available adapters. You might need to mod them. But can get Glock mag adapters, or the traditional Colt/uzi mags.

I actually considered using a junk 1911 frame for the mag adapter for the Lee.
