Non restricted AR options in Canada?

What are the non restricted AR upper and lower options available here in Canada

I know of Alberta Tactical (good quality but too expensive)
and Macabee Defense (unsure of quality, price is ok if I could find one)

Are there any others?

What is the quality like?

I'd prefer to assemble my own rather than purchase a complete rifle.

There was a guy at the range with one that he bought as a completed rifle and I cannot remember the brand but all he did was complain about it. So I'd like to find something with a decent reputation for quality.

I do not care for the Alberta Tactical left side charging handle BTW.... so that's out.

MVs is the only real NR AR available. The rest are nowhere close to AR specs and are held together with bolts that fall out...lol...

Buy once cry once.

In the 556 parent case the only true NR AR-15 like rifles are:
-MDI SLR reciever set ($1000)
-ATRS MS reciever set ($975)

In the .308 parent case the only true NR AR-10 like rifles are:
-BCL102 ($850 for recievers or $1550+ for a rifle)
-Stag10 ($640 for recievers or $1950+ for a rifle)

The best option for quality or value in either caliber is the ATRS MS and the Stag10.

What do you mean by MVs? I cant find anything to match. MV I assume is an abbreviation for some sort of mystical beast :)

I second this.

The MV (Modern Varmint) was ATRS' MS (Modern Sporter, sometimes incorrectly referred to as the MVs) predecessor. It used many proprietary parts and was only sold as a complete rifle starting at just $3400. The MS reciever set however does away with anything that was proprietary and as a result is offered in reciever set form only at this time.

The MV is the successor and scaled down version of ATRS' MH (Modern Hunter)

I’m pretty happy with my Maccabee, I’m sure the ATRS will be great too. I put a nordlock on the bolt, it will never fall out. Cost $3, should be part of the design in my opinion.

Depending how close to a actual ar platform you wanna get I think the Kodak defence wk180 is worth a look. Would get you out shooting for around the price of just a receiver set from the other two options.

Its a pay to play thing right now, I think thats how the RCMP likes it too. So the closest thing will be a waiting list for Alberta Tactical. Which is sort of rough honestly.

Also coming up in the New Year is the BCL Badger, long stroke piston rifle

LoL, The handguard mounting is proprietary so you won't be able to replace them. wonder what else they decided they dont want you to change... And 2007 called they want the piston system back !...lol...

Not to disparage your product in any way shape or form, but unless you could promise this gun to shoot SUB MOA with available off the shelf match ammo (IE Hornady or Frontier) I really couldn't see myself being interested.

I saw a link from IBI barrels facebook to an RWA youtube where they state that they are now using IBI supplied barrels on the 180b so if they don't shoot sub MOA I would be shocked.

Isn't every piston AR's handguard proprietary though? I don't know for sure, but they one's I have looked at have been.

The more NR sporting rifles we have the better IMO.

Despite what people will tell you, the MS and the SLR are very similar, and both great NR options. Parts compatibility is going to be very similar (the SLR won't accept some triggers, and the Magpul BAD lever. Looks like the MS won't accept some albeit nonstandard charging handles, and they're having a bit of an issue with the safety selectors. Neither is perfect, but they're lightyears ahead of anything else that exists) The SLR had some growing pains, but I think their issues are mostly all ironed out now. The ATRS MS is looking like it's going to be a great option as well, but no one (outside of ATRS employees and friends, I assume) has one yet. ATRS has a proven history of manufacturing quality firearms though, so that suggests that the MS will be the same.

The SLR is not held together with bolts that fall out. The upper and lower are held together with a combination of an interlocking system (sort of like tongue and groove), and a bolt to prevent them from separating. Mine has never backed out. A simple lock washer will give you some reassurance if you're concerned about it.

I have a Maccabee SLR and the quality is just fine. I have 2000 rounds through mine without any issue other than brand new metal mags being too snug. that goes away quickly.

I have 2 MS receivers coming to me in the second production run which is all sold out, so if you want a MS you may be waiting a while for the 3rd run.
