I would love an AR based 223 but refuse to buy a rifle that is a pretender. I want something I can actually use on soft targets and don't have to ask the queen if I can use it. Given that, does anyone have a recommendation on a non restricted semi auto 223? Thanks.

In order of my preference:

Swiss Arms Classic Green or Black Special
Tavor TAR 21
Robinson Armament XCR
CSA VZ 58 (.223)
Benelli MR-1
Kel Tec SU 16
H&K SL8

These all either take AR mags, or have AR magwell adapters available (NEA lower required for Swiss to take AR mags).

Of all the ones mentioned above, the closest to look and feel would be the XCR. But I would personally take the Swiss arms or Tavor over the XCR.

I've been saying for a long time that we need to sticky this ####ing question or make a list.
Not mad at OP. BUT someone should've caught on that this is asked weekly.

We all caught on, you're the only one who mentioned it :)

To the OP.. How much you want to spend, cuz that list has huge variation

Almost all of that list are expensive 2k+
The CZ and SU16 are decent for around $700 but the CZ is an AK47 look a like, don't like that too much.
I guess i would go with the SU16, but it kinda looks more like a sniper rifle than an assault rifle.

Every time this question is asked and the OPer joined in 2011 all the tinfoilers have a melt down because such a list would be nothing but a shopping list for Wendy and the CGC or the OP is a troll.

The only reason nobody has s**t the bed over this one yet, I assume, would be the OP is a longstanding CGNer.

What these f**ktard tinfoilers fail to realize is that Wendy & the CGC already have complete lists and if they require accurate updates they just call the ones in charge of classification in this country.

The CZ is not an AK47 look-a-like. It's a completely different, an arguably superior rifle, and the cosmetic similarities are not based on the AK47.

I guess i would go with the SU16, but it kinda looks more like a sniper rifle than an assault rifle.

Maybe a stock SU16 with the small mag would look marginally like a sniper rifle.
