I decided to do a little project for my sister as she has outgrown her 10/22, and is looking for something with a little more punch.
here was my criteria:
non restricted
black and scary-ish
rifle complete must be under $1500
optic must be under $500
5.56 caliber
easy to maintain and easy to find spare parts
2-3 inch 5 round groups @ 100
so here is what i came up with....
Ruger 580 with an archangel stock $825
Har-bar barrel stabilizer for accuracy $200
threaded barrel with compensator $100
Magpul AFG $30
Magpul flip up irons $50
aluminum rails for foregrip and lights on side $60
total on rifle was $1265.00
this gave me a little room for the optic, so i went with a Vortex Viper 1-4 PST with the quick release Vortex mount $650
Total spend was $1915.00
so i took it out to sight it in and i was really surprised by the accuracy with the Har-Bar barrel stabilizer.
i am getting consistent 1-2 inch 5 round groups @ 100m (way better than i expected)
it was a pretty easy build and well under the $1500 mark for a cool little non-restricted black rifle.
