Looking for opinions on a NR black rifle either 223/556 or 308. Hell I'd even consider one of those JR carbines or Keltec sub2000s, just having a hard time deciding on what I want to go with. The WK180-C is definitely in my mind. Also thinking about the Norinco M14 or BCL102, looking for a gun that has lots of customization and upgradeability. Another factor is a fun gun to shoot that doesn't break the bank on ammo.I like being as close to an AR as possible while remaining NR so I can shoot on the farm or take it out hunting trying to stay around 1000-1200 but will consider up to 2000. Thanks guys!

For that you are looking at the BCL 102, or SU16, SLR when available, WK180-c when available, MR1, and a few others....

Maybe a receiver set then? The MacDef SLR or the ATRS if it gets an FRT. scoop up an AR or one minus the lower if you don’t have the RPAL for cheap and away you go. Out of the box ready to go the 102 is probably the closest to an AR you can get. The 180 seems pretty cool to but you may end up waiting a bit.

I do like the idea of the SLR then everything is up to me parts wise for it, I kinda wanted to wait on the 180 anyway to see how it's feeding is and handguard swaps

If you aren't stuck on it being a semi the Troy PAR has AR ergonomics and looks in a pump action. Fun gun with good build quality and can be had lightly used for well under $1k now.

Under 2K before or after tax?

You know when we tell our spouses how much we paid for a new gun, we usually exclude tax and shipping and mags and optics.

Pick up an XCR from the equipment exchange. You can find some fairly cheap. Their resale value isn't great but they're good guns and the bafrel/caliber swap makes it even better.

Going hunting and plinking on the cheap doesn't really go togheter that much as you cant hunt big game with .223/556.

My m305 is definatly a lot of fun to shoot, really like the feel. Not the cheapest to feed and really didn't like the one time I went hunting with it.

If you put aside hunting (unless you're speaking varmint), SLR is the way to go as it IS a NR ar in pretty much everyway.

But you could also get both a m305 AND a 180 or T97 or else for the price of the SLR, something else to consider.

I have Kel-Tec SU16FX, Norinco T97 and have a WK 180-C on order (all around $1000 give or take). If you are looking not to break the bank maybe a M+M Industries 7.63x39 ($2000) firing cheap corrosive ammo, it's made for it. The first group shoots 223/5.56x45 ammo and if you are lucky you can get ammo for 40-45 cents a round while 7.62x39 20-25 cents a round in either corrosive or non. All of them you can mod out in some way or the other with attachments. Best thing you can do is go to a good hunting store and handle a few different rifles and find one you feel comfortable with. The XCR are amazing rifle if you don't mind dropping over $2,500.00 for either 5.56x45, 7.62x39 or 7.62x51(.308). Have fun looking around and buying something great for yourself. You can get a T97 for less than $800 on sale most of the time, great bullpup rifle.

For $1,000 get a 9mm JR Carbine. Have fun with the similar black rifle platform. Cheap target shooting. Decent for varmint shooting around the farm. Fun to customise. Later get a hunting rifle with a calibre suitable for what you intend to hunt.
