Hi, a swiss arms might be nice, but 3K is a little much for a university student.

Is the Robinson Arms XCR non-restricted in canada? Are there any other black rifles which are non restricted in Canada?

I have my RPAL, but there's alot to be said for Non-r status. For example, my range is pretty restrictive.

Sometimes I like bringing friends out, and scheduling the safety orientation is a hassle, and you can't shoot objects, which I understand, but sometimes it's nice to bring out a couple bags of apples, and make applesauce. Don't know why, but newbs (and me too) like shooting tin cans, or clays on the ground...etc..etc...etc..

So, even though I pay range fees, you'd be suprised how often I end up going out to a clearing down a logging road that faces a hill, or gravel pit...etc..etc..

So yeah, non restricted black rifles?

H&K SL8
CZ 858
Robinson Arms XCR

There's a few, the CZ is the cheapest but wow it's ugly up close. I've heard bad things about the XCR but never shot one, the SL8 is ###y with the G36 conversion but that's gonna cost even more than the Swiss Arms. If I had to choose I would go with the CZ because it's a fraction of the cost and 7.62 surplus is dirt cheap. I'd get a different furniture for it though.

Don't forget the Type-97. If you're worried about the price, the $850 odd price tag is a lot more attractive than the $3000 alternative in bullpups.

think storm in 9mm. Yes you have to put some effort in changing classification but its worth it. Inexpensive ammo, accurate and 10 round mags are bonus

Norc M14 in SAGE, JAE or Troy. Will not break through 2000$, non-restricted and very black. Ammo is not cheap but at least 308 gets you some serious punch. You can actually hunt with it.

THe Norinco Type 97 is probably the best for the under 1000. It will devastate the entire AR180 and Mini 14 market, and put them to history. You cannot beat the price for a rifle with hammer forged barrel.

If you don't subscribe to the "Made in China: the new warning label" school of thought then I think the Type 97 is the way to go.

The Mini 14 Target model is more expensive and doesn't strike me as a black rifle at first glance but with proper tuning and half-decent ammo it can be a fairly accurate rifle. Check it out on youtube.

There's also the Armalite AR180b-2 as non-restricted, though you'll have to either find one on the EE, or wait for Wolverine Supplies to get them in again. I'm hoping to get one myself, so I'm gonna keep my eyes open for one once my RPAL arrives.

I am sure you are well aware of this, but the sks is a real fun platform. I have one done up real nice with a black Tapco AR style stock, red dot scope, and the 30/5 mags are bad ass. Ammo is cheap, and now you can even buy tracers that I have to say work rediculously well. Let me know if you want me to send you some pics.

Yeah pictures! I've been curious about the sks. Tracer's you say? Hmmm...that sounds good.

the m 14 is awesome even if you get the china version...
where did you get that stock on the left? makes it look great

Skip the Norincos, buy a remington 7615 they take AR mags and a pump action is a great fast way to reload. Perhaps I'll see you at the TBDR&G Club and you can try it out. Ther orientation is kind of lame and the 100 yd range blows but you can still have fun, they are not anti restricted if if join the right subgroup. Nobody cept the TBP boys have given me the brow.
