Non-Restricted CSA VZ58 .223?

Anyone have one of these? I'm looking around for a non-restricted black rifle that takes LAR15 mags, can be modified with different stocks, and is accurate enough for coyote/bobcat hunting. I was looking at the XCR but I cringe every time I look at the price. The CSA VZ58 was recommended to me, so I'm wondering what the range reports are like and what kind of aftermarket accessories are available.

Also, does anyone even have these in stock? Wolverine has them listed, but with no picture and they're out of stock. I'd like to at least see a picture.

I have the CSA VZ58 in .223 (I think that's the one you are referring too, you say 858 in your title and 58 in your post :) )

Haven't had it that long, but here's what I can say. The AR15 mag adapter (gen 2) works well. It is a wee bit fussy on mags, likes all my 5/30 and LAR 10 rounders, with the exception of some mags I have made by "C Products". They won't accept the plastic Pmags.

With irons it's a fairly accurate rifle, 50 yards off hand about 4 MOA or so. Maybe a bit more... but that could be the shooter ;)

I put a full wood stock from Wolverine on mine and it "feels" nicer than the composite crap it comes with. Easy upgrade. Takes all CZ858 accessories in regards to stocks etc. Just not parts made for 7.62 obviously. Nice gun all around :cool:
 
I purchased my 5.56 VZ-58 because I wanted something non-restricted to replace my AR, and my wife would have killed me if I dropped more than 2 grand on another gun haha...

The VZ-58 can be setup however you like - mine has an ACE AKFX stock with a stormwerkz folding mechanism and receiver block, NEA hybrid break, and the fabarm handguards and pistol grip. There are many accessories available for these rifles, so in my opinion that isn't an issue (except for my bank account). AR stocks can also be fitted if you have the right receiver block/adapter. I believe AK-47 pistol grips can also be fitted with minor work.

Magazine wells are available to convert to AR-15 mags, and work as advertised. I am waiting on the gen 2 version of the CSA adapter, as I broke my gen 1. My LAR-15 mags functioned flawlessly in the rifle.

I can't speak to accuracy much as I haven't sat down to chrony my loads and shoot for groups. I mostly use my VZ for offhand plinking at targets.

Oh, and CSA customer service seems to be top notch.

One last thing - I love this rifle. It gets shot far more often than my other guns. It is fantastic.

Edited to add: Also, Epps has one of the non restricted in stock.

Cool. The guys I bought my stock adapter from are stormwerkz out of the states, and they were excellent to deal with (they also make an AR stock adapter). NEA makes one with a rail on it, but it doesn't fold. I believe Wolverine also sells some folding AR stocks for the VZ.

If you are interested in mounting a red dot on the handguard, the one I have may not be ideal. Some of the people on this site can chime in with recommendations around that if they like. I have mine as I intend on using the bottom rail for a fore grip or handstop.

The biggest thing I'm not a fan about with these guns is the optics mounting options. Either mount a red dot way up front on the handguard, or a side mount for a scope. both are kind of ugly in my opinion and ruin the lines of the gun. I need to mount optics since i want to hunt predators and small game with it.

the csa in 556 wouldn't be the best predator gun, not saying it won't work for you, but as you mention, mounting optics isn't ideal...maybe the mini 14 would work better for you....
 
the mini 14 i owned for a bit had the larger tapered barrel and shot 1.5-2moa using handloads...the csa 556 shoots about the same with my hand loads...the xcr is a sweet rifle(i'm buying one soon)
