Hey guys,

Been out of the loop for a few years on black rifles. I'd really like to build a Designated marksman rifle type, preferably in .223.

Any suggestions? How's the sl8 for mid-long range accuracy?

Thanks, the swiss arms would have been perfect :(

QBU-88, aka Type-88 chambered in 5.56mm. Under 20 in Canada, 3000 dollars each. Accuracy (from members I've asked) 1 MOA, potentially better.
ACR DMR, when they come in.
Had an SL8, was okay, but I didn't like the feeling. Too front heavy, basically a bench gun.
Swiss Arms could be used for that job, sadly not now, hopefully soon again.
Restricted rifle, obviously you could try an AR-15, but no fun innawoods.
Tavor and FS2000 could do the job, but accuracy might be an issue. 2-3 inches at 100 turns into 10-15 inches at 500.

Just saying, for higher calibres?
SVT-40 (free-float, scope, etc.)
M14/M1A/M305 obviously can work.
Kel-Tec RFB, but accuracy varies on the rifle. 24 inch model might work for that.

Hopefully soon the Desert Tech MDRs will be coming. The barrels are 10.5" and 16", but I would expect they will do an 18.5" model like the ACR DMR.
DMR-style rifles are exactly what I'm looking for in a rifle, and unfortunately, there isn't too much to choose from.

I really really like the look of that rifle. I admit I don't know the most about Bushmaster products. Are they considered accurate and well made?

They are well made, and can be quite accurate with match ammo. Honestly, my (and most other ACR owners') biggest and really only complaint is the lack of support from Bushmaster. They have promised barrel and calibre conversion kits since the day the rifle was announced.

The actual rifle is very nice. A bit front-heavy (as with all piston rifles) but very well built as long as you don't mind plastic. It was designed by Magpul after all. The ergonomics are excellent.

I would second QBU88, if one is lucky to score. I just got mine, literally couple days ago. Excellent rifle, very well engineered, not to mention it being bullpup with 24" barrel and just some 32" overall length. I never had a chance to check its accuracy with optics, but shooting with BUIS from prone it does about 1" at 50 yards. I figure it will be 1MOA from bench with half decent glass.

I've got a bartlein barrelled, non restricted acr here.
It is consistently sub moa.
Barrel was done by Herron arms.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the "dmr" version. When it finally does get here, it's still going to be saddled with a mediocre bushmaster barrel...

Totally agree.

Seriously want a QBU-88, but nobody is importing any at the moment.
I really hope whoever is doing the next group will actually tell us.

And weigh the same as a ton of bricks. Having handled the DMR at Shot'14 I'd definitely prefer a rebarrelled unit.
