I've always thought the full size Swiss rifles were very front heavy and the stock flash suppressor is junk. So, in an effort to reduce the overall weight, length and increase the flash suppression, I contracted Herron Arms to design and make a barrel for my (then restricted) Swiss Arms Carbine.
Here's a few shots of the first non-restricted carbine length Swiss Arms. This barrel was custom made from a Green Mountain blank and the overall workmanship is flawless. This is only the first version.
- 5.56 NATO Chamber
- 1/7 Twist
- 1/2x28 TPI Muzzle
- Dark Parkerized Finish
The next one that is in the works will be about 2" shorter (only 16.5" of rifling or so) but will have a built in Vortex style flash suppressor. This current version will be going to a friend who will be making his carbine into a DM rifle.
Keep in mind the barrel requires proper breaking in to achieve it's best potential for accuracy. I'm about half way through the painful break in process and the last group I shot with home loads and the 3.4x Elcan I have in the EE was just over .75" at 100yds. At 25m all the rounds made one ragged hole. Very impressive.
