is there much out there for non restricted AR type guns?
something other then the mini14....im interested but wont something i can take anywhere and shoot....not to picky just wont something that looks sweet

There are a few. Xcr, sig/Swiss arms ect. There is a thread listing all the non rest black rifles in this section. Do a search.

This has been done to death.

Robinson Arms XCR
HK SL8
AR 180B
Swiss Arms
IWI Tavor
Kel Tec RFB

Cheapest being the AR 180b at around $1200 as they are not maufactured any more so used is the only option. The SL8 is a close second at around $2000. Keltec and RA XCR are around $2500 new. Swiss Arms and Tavor are $3000+.

You can play but it aint cheap. The question is how much do you shoot outside of the range? Is it worth it. An AR is arguably a better platform with many more options, at a much cheaper price.

Every 1400th time this is posted, I am allowed to write.

Lucky 1400.

Get your restricted license and buy an AR15.
Then, get something you can shoot anywhere later.
Then let's all talk black rifles and shooting.
Cause the Black Rifle IS the AR-15.

Other than that, welcome shooter.
Let us know how you make out.

Best regards.

The most affordable option is probably the Czech Small Arms SAVZ58 in .223. From what I understand, they're basically an 858 in .223. I've also heard that an AR15 magazine conversion kit is in the works.

Not really an AR type gun though in my opinion. Again though for the money you are gonna spend you can have a sweet AR set up any way you want. There is just soo much more kit available, and repairs, or parts are a dime a dozen.

Yah, I know it's not really an AR, but he wants a non-restricted rifle. If you add the AR mag conversion kit and a collapsible buttstock, the CSA will be relatively similar to an AR and it won't break the bank. I was just suggesting the OP look into it as he may decide it is something that he wants.

Good luck finding a used AR-180B for $1200. The going rate has been closer to $1700 or $1800 in the last few months. Any time they're listed cheaper, they're gone almost as soon as they're posted.

Why rule out the mini 14, it may not look like much in the original stck but (once you've saved up) you can always buy the troy stock. It's super ###y lookin. I'll add a link
