non-"star" bolt in "star" P14 barrel?

Hi everyone,

Quick question for the select few who know about the P14 Enfield.

Can a non "star" (*) bolt be used with a barrel that did receive the "star" modification?

Lou, I can't answer that with any historic certainty but someone will. I can tell you that I have a P17 here which has a Canadian bolt in it and it works fine. I'd try it with a headspace guage and if it was OK I'd use it. Dave

I believe so, its the reverse that is problematic.

Indeed my latest refurb has that issue; I really thought I had checked the headspace when I received it but apparently I didn't!

I probably will try the spare bolt another CGN member has to offer, ahd we'l take it from there,

You've got it backwards Calum, last time it was a star bolt not closing on a non-star barrel!

Swapping bolts might be a longshot as far as headspace is concerned. Alternatively, if you reload, you can partially resize the cases to correct for sloppy headspace. This will allow you to retain the original bolt.
