I was under the impression that the 45 raptor was not for export? It does look interesting.

Yes Thomas, I bought a Stag 10 for exact same reason ( rebarrel to 338 Federal) and hopefully can get a second upper when it's becomes available then the Raptor dream will come true.

Buffalo bore has factory ammo for 45 Raptor with enough interest they might make 375 Raptor as well.

45 raptor is a gimped cartridge specifically designed to adhere to Ohio hunting laws.

It's 1.8" long (Ohio maximum case length for hunting) and requires a special magazine spacer to be used.

It's not a general purpose cartridge. You could build your own and make the case 2.2" long and get a hell of a lot more performance and wouldn't need the special mags.

I was thinking of doing the same thing but will probably try to do the "45-70 auto" thing that one company did down south. I've got a CNC machine so I can cut the .473" bolt face and extractor groove into 45-70. Then it's just a regular 45-70 reamer in 458 barrel blank, and into an ar10 barrel extension. Just gotta find someone to do the job.

Having a tighter than normal chamber in a semi auto isnt a great idea. That with a longer than normal throat you cant take advantage of with a mag fed firearm makes it an undesirable chamber in a semi. That's just my opinion on the obermeyer

this topic came up a few years back when one of the members in the m14 circles was getting his rifle built with an obermeyer chamber and was trying to convince us all it was superior to an M118 chamber...…. but for exactly the reasons you state, it's a poor choice for a semi auto.

Hadn`t thought of that, but you make a compelling argument. Personally, I think the 243 is the ideal 3rd option.

.243 and 6mm Creedmoor are pretty much identical ballistically but the case design of the Creedmoor makes it possible to more easily run the heavier projectiles at mag length, hence my preference for it.

A full range of chambers are already possible and available. My experience leans me to the Creedmoor family as the easiest for set up and function in the smaller cals

22CM, 6CM, 6.5 CM are all possible now.

Of course a full range based on the 308 win family are already going... from the 243 to 358 win. However, with the mag length, you really aren't going to enjoy the higher BC/heavier bullets popular in the 6mm to 7mm

Some have received 338 Fed barrels already... would love to hear feedback on how they are working. I believe there is a 358 Win in the works.

I would not recommend the 22-250 or any highly tapered case unless appropriate mags and lowers are also being used. For those interested in a fast 22cal, the 22 CM would be my suggestion for the AR10 platform.

Of course, if AR15's are on the menu, there is another entire family of chamberings possible.

PM or email if I can help.

Jerry

I don't have any use for a 243 but I can see why many do so I agree , with you , it is an ideal option for some folks.
I held out for months n months trying to support the Canadian manufacturer that said they were going to make us some .338 federal barrels but I don't have patience for empty words LOL
went another route that got a custom barrel in my hands inside 7 weeks and while I have not done any shooting yet, once my optic set up is finalized I'll get her out for some hole punching.
