Noob belt question

well you could buy the belt and then just use it as a normal belt... the rules for the IDPA state,

the problem with the velcro belts is that the outer goes over top of the pant loops.... you could still use the inner belt and thread it thru everything.

your best bet though is to find an instructor style belt, pop quiz are you a skinny guy or a fat guy ?? do you normally wear belts ?

Skinny and yep, waist measure 32", but I prefer 34". Have any recommendations on instructor style belts?

well theother thing is do you prefer a standard leather belt with a standard buckle or do you want to try a "rigger" type belt which is what most of the instructor belts use.

frankly in canada daves tactical has good selection as does one shot tactical.... daves also has the 5.11 Leather Casual Belt (1.5" width) with a standard style belt buckle... nextthing to check is the width of the belt loops on your jeans or pants your going to wear.

are they 1.5" or 1.75".... most rigger belts are 1.75....

there are many options here, if you go leather mernickleholsters.com can even custom make a belt for you, or another good maker is uglybaldguy ( ubgholsters.com ) and you will be surprized how cheap custom can be. and since your a "standard" size ordering should be painless and delivery quick.

I think I'd like to try a 'rigger' belt. I saw the 5.11 on Daves website, but can't remember the last time I spent $50 on a belt, not even my suit belts cost that much.

Plus if I go leather, I have some old ones that will work, I thought there might be something a little more durable though

the rigger belts are great, double thick and not prone to folding over like a standard belt.... problem is your going to pay $50 for a riggers belt too.

daves sells the rigger belt which will save you the provincial tax ..... the tactical tailor one is $35 and the kdx is $45,.... not sure of the difference but if you have any questions do not hesitate to phone them and talk to colin and he will set you straight.

No doubt, DS tac provided my 2nd mag holster and I was impressed with their service. Ebay has some riggers that are a little cheaper, but from the US....think I'd rather support a CDN supplier first

the wilderness belt is "the" belt that others are compared to if your going to ebay it... frankly I think the ones daves have are of equal or better quality from what I have seen.

I saw the 5.11 leather belt that albertacoyotecaller uses and it seems good quality, I am sure if he see's this he will comment, I myself use a double think leather belt Ibought years ago and other then the fact that I have lost a whole lot of weight in the last year it is still a good belt.

just remember that velcro inner/outer belt systems are only approved for IPSC and NOT IDPA.

IDPA specs a normal style belt must be used UNLESS your .mil or leo and then your duty belt may be used, BUT you must carry all of your on duty pouches with it.

So the DS Tactical belt being a two piece unit is also not allowed by idpa. In any event you want the most rigid belt you can find, another vote here for the CR speed or double alpha, assuming you're shooting IPSC....

Safariland changed their belts a couple of years ago to what I like to refer to as the 'noodle' version. They're horrible.

Sorry no interest in IPSC....yet, my focus is really on IDPA. Thanks for the advice, I'm sure when I spectate some of these events some shooters can show me their straps as well :)

Onagoth

The original Wilderness Belt is a standard most belts are judged by for use in IDPA. Get the 1 3/4 size which is the max for IDPA. The belt is much more stiffer than any leather belt I have seen or tried.
