I am going to try to mount a scope myself for the first time. I have seen a few internet sights with lots of good suggestions, but I have a couple questions::confused:

Is there a torque spec for the rings?

Do you use blue loctite on all threads; base & rings?

Any other helpful suggestions?

Thanks

Blue loctite on bases. Torque for rings...??? some go by the "book" ...but snug ( hand tight) has done me well...never a movement, no damage to the scope tube. Every one has their own way of doing this so there will be a lot of differing ideas. For the number of times you may be remounting the scope rings, is it really worth the cost of the torque wrench?

I've read 15 in-lbs for scope rings, but I once broke a ring screw using that torque, so I just tighten them until I feel that they are tight enough to not come loose, but not too tight so as to strip something or damage the scope.

Blue Loctite gets used on the base and ring-to-base screws, not the ring screws.

I always just insert the scope into the rings, then tighten the rings until the scope can still slide back and forth, but not move on its own. Then I get the ER distance set, and proceed to square up the reticle with the rifle, and then tighten down one ring and re-check for ER and level. If all is well, I proceed to tighten the other ring and go back and forth between the ring screws to make sure they're all evenly torqued.

I already have the inch/pound torque wrench. My concern was just that, breaking screws or damaging the tube.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Depending of your mounting base and your optic price, you may want to use some ring alignment gauge like the one from Sinclair international.
