noob question on polishing...

What are the basics when it comes to polishing the internals of some firearms, do you use some sort off polishing wax or what?

Jeweller's rouge and a cloth buffing wheel in a drill press. Jeweller's rouge is readily available in Home Depot and Crappy Tire and not expensive.

i use a dremmel,with the fine white stone. Although,technically, it is grinding. I use it to remove milling marks. You can go finer too with the accessories (cloth wheel).
