Hi there I have A restricted licence but I want to know do I need to belong to a gun club to own A restricted hand gun? I have bought and sold lots and lots of non- restricted stuff but I want to start buying and selling restricted. Thanks Andrew

Not according to the law, but your CFO may vary.

Alright thanks, if I own a restricted gun does the CFO have the right to come into my house whenever they want and check the storage of the gun's?

No. They have to have a warrant or make an appointment.

I transferred a G21 to a guy in T.O. who didn't at the time belong to a club. He told me that the CFO told him that as long as he was "looking into a club membership" that that was in and of itself a good enough reason.

I just bought a Glock31c and had no snags with the transfer (Ontario)...I just said I was looking into a couple clubs but hadn't settled on one yet. She asked what the closest club to me was, so I threw out a name and they went with that.

You don't need to belong to a club to buy a gun, but on my first transfer, I did indicate which club I plan on joining.

You do need a club to get an LTATT though.

Be aware though that the correct answer to this question varies from Province to Province. What's correct in Ontario isn't in BC. (Just in case someone from BC searches the archive for the answer to this question)
