So I'm thinking about picking up an 870 Express...it seems a few people on here have had them jam with live rounds in the chamber (winchester ammo). If I'm at a range and this happens and I cannot cycle the action...what do I do?

Not sure they covered this in the PAL class...

i havent heard of jams with live rounds- more than likely with a fired round that won't extract because it swells too much

Miost of the time if you really reef back on the action it'll clear. If not try dropping in a brass rod or punching it with a dowel (empty round only!)

I had one where I has a fired case in the chamber and a live round stuck in the action. i wound up having to remove the barrel and pound out the case with a brass rod. This is one in at least 100 jams i've cleared and a brand new gun it happens less & less as the gun wears in.

if you have a failure to fire than keep the gun pointed downrange for a minute then eject the case

With the older ( 20-25 year ago) 870s sometimes if you short stroked them you wound up with a loaded round in the chamber and another just below it on the carrier and then you were truly screwed you essentially had to remove the barrel to clear it. The newer 870s have a u shaped cutout in the carrier so you can push the bottom shell back up the tube by closing the action.

Don't let the possobility of a jam bother you the 870 is an excellent gun. The cheap winchester ammo is an equal opportunity jammer it has affected my winchesters and a valtro as well...
