I bought an 870 3.5" with a 30" barrel which I plan on using as a do-everything shotgun. The is a public club (Hamilton) not too far from me so I plan on giving skeet/trap a try.
What chokes do you use?
What factory ammo do you use? (I don't reload for shotgun)
What's the difference between skeet and trap?
Does anyone have experience with this club? What does it cost?

Thanks - DML

What chokes do you use?
For skeet, use open chokes like cylinder, improved cylinder or skeet 1 and 2 chokes. For ATA trap from the 16 yard line, use modified. For handicap (longer distances) use improved modified or full. None of these suggestions are really useful until you go out and pattern the various choke tubes through your gun.

What factory ammo do you use?
Most clubs require that you use shot size 7 1/2 or smaller. #8 is very popular as an all around shot size. #9 is commonly used for skeet. Use 2 3/4 inch shells only, no magnum loads. 1 1/8 oz. of shot is the largest payload usually allowed, and 1 oz. loads are very popular. Kent, Winchester and Federal all make reasonably priced target loads. Target ammo is usually bought by the flat (10 boxes).

A Google search will reveal all the rules and suggested techniques.

What does it cost?
The going rate for a round of trap or skeet seems to range from about $4.00 per round to $7.50, depending on the club. A box of shells should be around $5.00.

Sharptail

I can't add anything to Sharptail's excellent answer.

Which club are we talking?. There is more than one in the Hamilton area? Waterford, Hamilton Gun Club, Hamilton Anglers and Hunters?

I was told by Skeetgunner, who shoots at my club that there is an open club someplace in Hamilton. He gave me directions, but I know Hamilton like I know Antarctica. I'll probably see him this Wednesday and get more info.

Thanks for all the help, gents
