Sorry everyone - dumb question perhaps, but I need a little help with my new 858 -

Took it apart for the first time - and I can't get the bolt and receiver cover back in place - does the receiver cover need to be over the bolt before you reinstall it into the receiver (springs depressed)? My problem is the lower spring guide on the back bottom doesn't want to slide in if I just reinstall the bolt first, then try to do the receiver cover second. I know this probably sounds dumb - but if someone knows something I don't, please help.

I think you are probably mean the bolt carrier rather than the bolt ? I can't really see how you can be having a problem with the bolt.

The striker ( the thing sticking out the back side of the carrier ) can not fully recess into the bolt carrier when the bolt is pushed back. You will not be able to insert the carrier into position ( the striker will catch on the back of the reciever ) until you allow the bolt to move forward a little alowing you to fully insert the striker. The knack is to insert it at a 45 degree angle and let the striker and bolt move forward and it should drop in efortlessly. You can then replace the cover.

Hopes this helps

PS I think I might have misunderstood you.

When you have the bolt carrier in place, pull the trigger to let the striker disengage the sear while simultaniously tilting the rifle muzzle downward so the striker slides forward , you will then be able to easily insert the springs and replace the cover.

Your second note (PS) was exactly the information I was looking for, my new rifle is back together. Much appreciated Flob!

Got my new CZ 858 & 1800 rnds in October '05. Still haven't fired it yet
I field stripped it to check for slag / shavings and and to clean it. Found the cover was a little awkward the first time too.

Regards,

I know I am bringining(sp?) an old thread back to life, but once you THINK you made it together back all well, is there any possibility for you to have scr*wed up something? Everything seems to work ok, but I really don't feel like getting a bolt in the face at the same speed as the bullet :D

You have to push on the striker while actuating the trigger to allow the striker to move fully forward; once this is done the two springs will be easy to angle into their receiving holes in the carrier and the striker tube.
The carrier cover is not tricky to slide into place once you make sure the forward portion is resting in its rails. You then push the whole thing forward and it will slide in its catch.
