Hey folks found this site recentley, hope to gain some knowledge, kinda have been "out of the game" for quite a while, (probly over ten years)

Its abit of a story really, when i was young living on the farm i grew up understanding and using firearms all the time, but as i grew older and met my wife in high school, started tweeking trucks with wrenches, i kind of lost track of a memorable recreation, I took both the restricted and non-restricted course in early 2006, but however due to missing and improper information ( beleive me we don`t really need to get into it.... ;) ) I just recieved a phone call and have been given an application number. so after a phone call some time this week, actually receiving the card is a little more closer.

I have recentley been reading many magazines and topics about pistols, and have actively been working on deciding on a 9mm hand gun, Just something to bring down to the range (few miles from my house) on weekends or whenever the urge compels me, to plink off a few rounds. :D

I also wish to purchase a rifle, maybe not as soon as the pistol but something i can take down deer and moose and maybe the odd elk. Any suggestions are welcomed. But I will use the "search" icon to be my friend for quite a while i`m sure, already peered into a thread about the sr9 from ruger with surpisingly less than stellar results from some members ( it appeared to be highly praized on many US forums) anyways hope to get along here, don`t forget ima noob and i may need time to catch the lingo....

Well, had my phone interview today and my brother and father called me to let me know they gave their refrence to me, my buddy said it was a bout 2 weeks after the interveiws that he got his card in the mail, so looking forward to it! Just need to decide on a good reliable 9mm pistol!

When it comes to picking a pistol you really have to go by feel. It's best if you can try shooting a couple to compare, but even just gripping one in a store is better than just picking one that looks good (especially if you're on a budget).
If money isn't a problem then I would say try a Sig P226 or any 1911 style pistol. If you have a budget under $1000 then try Glocks, Springfield XDs and M&Ps. If you really don't want to spend a lot, just pick up one of those Norinco M213 pistols for $99 to get your feet wet, or go for the Sig 226 Norinco clone or the 1911 if you can find one.

Yeah i`d like to spend less tha 1k, thats why i choose a 9mm, amuntion seems to be the cheapest (without going rimfire/small calibre) my friend has a M&P9, i may go with him to the range this weekend to give it a try, his only complaints are the lack of safteys, which kind of concerns me aswell, I hope to have time soon to visit some stores and handle some to find one with good "feel".

Thanks for the model recomendations, I`ll check`em out!
