Norc 1911 or Taurus? Thoughts ...

i'm looking for a cheaper 1911 but want some good features as well. haha.

If you want a basic 1911A1 that is decent for the money but still on the econo end then the Norc is the way to go.

The 'enhanced' Norc 1911A1's with some "nicer" features are pretty much all sold out unless you score one for sale on the EE, etc.

I'd say the Taurus 1911 is a step up from that.

I still think the best bang for the buck in a 1911 with some real nice features without breaking the bank so to speak is the STI Spartan from Armco, though.

What features?

The two popular inexpensive "featured" 1911's in Canada are the police model Norinco with Armco tuneup and the STI Spartan. They both come with the smoother curved up beavertail and target hammers.

I vote for the norc. I have the police model and love it. Some wood grips, a new trigger, and some new sights and I can put them all in 3 inches at 50 feet on a good day. I have been through about 6 handguns this year in the sub $700 dollar range and the Nork is my favorite so far.

Hey NAA, Armco will be getting a MINT, Norc Police model (fully decked out Norc model) .45 with the super ARMCO work over for sale.... real soon (wink)

I had one NIB from Can Am but my other Norc 1911's got jealous. :D Sold it when I had my eye on something else, though...

But I am holding out for a spankin' new STI Spartan from Armco. Likely in the New Year.... ;)

I just went through the same process and Gunnar is sending me an STI Spartan as we speak. A nice Xmas gift to myself. :D

Norinco 1911 and Taurus are in completely separate price categories. Am I wrong? Taurus costs more than 2.5 times Norinco.

Agreed, Taurus is at least double the price of a Norinco. I think theres better out there for the price(Taurus). Try a Norinco, for $400 you cant go too far wrong. You can always upgrade later if the interest is still there.

Nornico is not in the same category as a Taurus 1911!

and unlike the Armscor I mean Spartan ;) Taurus 1911 has a forged (not cast) frame, slide, barrel and is available on stainless. :)
