Norc 1911 shooting low

My son just bought a Norc 1911 (Can Am deal). The pistol is shooting a lot low. To prove it wasn't his shooting he shot it off a sandbag at 20 yards and it is hitting about 6" low.

What would cause this and what would the fix be?

File a bit off of the front sight. You're lucky, mine shoots high, which would require filing the REAR which is a touchier job and easier to make it look like crap

Jones, It is easy to buy a new front sight. the Norc uses the standard Series 70 Colt tenon. Get one a size taller. Fibre optic would look nice.

Aim for the Center of the target instead of the six o'clock hold. If you're already doing that, either modify or change your front sight, as mentioned. Ammo choice can effect this too, heavier bullets will usually print higher on the target. - dan

If the guns shooting low,you want a lower front sight,not a higher one.Go to Dawson precision site,they have a formula there to determine how much change to make in the site to zero it

that front sight is low already, better to get a higher rear sight, might be easier to replace too! Try getting someone else to shoot it just to ensure its the gun!

mwJones already responded to the op with what should be a simple and acceptable solution to his problem. file down the front sight or replace it all together. it's not hijacking, it's just natural progression of the topic. problem 1 has been given a solution and problem 2 is presented, it only makes sense that someone responds with a solution to problem 2 considering it is similar and relevant to the original problem.
