Norc 1911 sport model - Mag release falls off?

Hi All,

I put 200 rounds through a new sport model Norc 1911 on the weekend, and have a couple of questions! (I am 1911 newb).

1. The extended magazine release shot out after my about 70 rounds. Is it safe to locktite this in place?

It looks like the 'extended' portion of the release screws into a threaded receiver on the regular release. Was at an outdoor range, and as soon as I noticed it was gone I was pretty much resigned to never finding it again. As I was packing up and making sure I wasn't leaving brass all over the place I came across it! Don't want to lose that again....

2. 10 Round Mecgar magazines bring the slide forward when inserted. Should I be worried about that?

50 rounds came our of 5x 10 rnd Mecgar mags, and each time I inserted a loaded 10 round magazine (with a reasonable tap), the slide moved forward. This felt like a really great feature, but I'm not sure if it could be indicative of a problem.

3. Aftermarket 7 round mags - don't hold slide back?

The Norc 7 round mags that came with the pistol held the slide back just fine, but I have a few (supposedly also Norc) mags that are stamped 'Colt 45 auto' on the base, of the 6 of these I tried half of them didn't hold the slide back. Are these just crappy mags?

Overall was a really fun gun. Filthy by the end of the day, but no failures to feed, fire or eject.
 
Just blue loc tite the mag release. Same thing happened to all 3 of mine. But once you do you won't be able to remove the trigger if you want a detail strip.

If some mags hold the slide open and some dont, then it's the crappy mags, not the gun

Not sure why the 10 rounders are sending the slide forward, perhaps something to do with spring tension? (but that really does t make sense)
 
Norinco pistols are mostly junk. I had a 1911 and an NP34 and they were garbage. Mind you their mock AR15 is good and their M305 is well worth the money. Save your dinero and buy a real gun. IMHO:D

Since we're on the topic of Norinco's calling apart, mine recently jammed up when the slide was released forward. When I finally got the thing to open back up, the little "horn" under the barrel that holds the barrel link pin was snapped off.

Any idea if it'll still fire O.K. or should I leave it be and maybe look for a replacement barrel?
 
end the norc flame FFS, its an economy company providing an economical option so they are what they are. dont complain when your kia wont pass a corvette on your way to work.

my np29 had the extended mag issue. as mentioned blue loctite works fine never again. the only complaint i have is the grip bushings are an uncommon metric thread.
 
A gun with parts that fall off...is never a good deal. Add all the time trying to make it work as well time and money trying to smooth it out and that most 1911 parts are not a drop in fit with the Norc and I do not see why anyone buys these. Even a tuned Norc with high end parts will not sell for much more then a new, stock one because at the end of that day it is still a Norc.

Save for a little longer, shop used...do anything you can to NOT get a Norc.

this part would fall off on any pistol if it wasnt loc tite'd down

you sound like a real 1911 and norinco expert saying that parts are not drop in. most parts on any 1911 are not drop in and have to be fitted to the particular gun
 
I know a lot of 1911 can take drop in parts without issue...but a Chinese out of spec one...not really.

PS. Why is it okay for a 1911 to NEED loctite but not an XCR?
 
Not trolling...just saying you get what you pay for. I personally think if you want a 1911 the new Ruger or a RIA is a much much better choice then a Norc.
 
Shooter's Arms 1911s look like a way better deal than Norinco.

Much nicer guns, for only a little bit more money.

Mine is 3, 4 times worse than a Norc. Since it is a $1200 ###### proudly made in USA.
May be the design of 1911 is a little out dated comparing to the modern design like a Glock?
